The Safari Jacket

The Safari Jacket

The First Safari Jacket –– Yves Saint Laurent first introduced the safari jacket at his 1967 runway show in Paris. It was not until it was shot for and printed on the pages of French Vogue that the design became famous and turned into a classic.

Since it’s release the 60s, Yves Saint Laurent’s safari look has inspired thousands of designers, fashion editors, stylists and photographers to design and style their own versions, including our modern take on the look.

Unquestionably, there’s one trend winning over fashion girls everywhere this season - the utility trend. All over the spring runways the major designers showed an abundance of utilitarian pieces with patch pockets, shades of khaki or black, and boilersuits.

If you’re eager to sport this trend, and we suggest you do, may we suggest a cool silk safari jacket and pair of ankle tie pants which are an alternative to jeans. Below we’re sharing with you the coolest ways to style them this season.

To add instant polish to your urban safari pants, pair them with a silk camisole either in a matching or contrasting colour.

For a more casual look, a perfectly cut plain or graphic t-shirt or tank is another option.

A tapered pant looks super rock-chic when paired with an of-the-moment pointed-toe black ankle boot or in this season’s animal print.

If you’re going head-to-toe with your utility look adding a matching jacket will help elevate the look. Adding a leather fringe trimmed bag will add that model-off-duty look that we love.
