The mood in the VOSN (Vogue Online Shopping Night) hub was jubilant and proved that Australian designers are embracing social media like never before. Our guests eagerly shared stories about memorable encounters with happy customers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
We had some exciting news of our own, so on our Vogue Australia Facebook page we announced that Christine Centenera had joined our fashion team. We held a live chat from the hub with plenty of Instagram pictures to illustrate.
On the atmosphere in the VOSN hub, editor-in-chief Edwina McCann said: “There’s been an incredible buzz in the room. We’ve had Simone from Zimmermann, Alex from Ginger & Smart and Heidi from Sass & Bide. And the response from our twitter followers and Facebook fans has been so reassuring that we’re on the right track.”
One theme that kept coming up was the idea that social media has connected Australian designers to customers across the globe.
Becky Cooper of Bec & Bridge said: “We sent out an e-newsletter and we had a map of the world and it showed people opening the newsletter in the Caribbean and in Africa and then clicking on to our online store. We had no idea Bec & Bridge was known in other parts of the world.” Gail Elliott from Little Joe NY loved the fact that her label now reaches people in Russia.
We think Carl Kapp summed it up best when he said, “Once you’re online, it’s amazing how small the world really is.”
